I've been living in the financial district for a year and finally found a groomer that's worth coming back to over and over and over again! May is a really talented groomer. My dog loves her. It's a perfect cut every time. And once we came back from a muddy, rainy hike upstate. His fur was in knots and tangles. One trip to The Salty Paw and she restored him... just like new! She is great with dogs.
Other offerings here are a doggy day care which I haven't tried and some high end toys and supplies, and wholesome all-natural treats.
Bottom line this is a great neighborhood boutique with excellent groomers.
* Pros: May is a talented groomer
Rondo888via City SearchAMAZING. Premium price, but 5 star treatment. This is not a budget option for grooming dogs. It's pretty much the luxe of the luxe. But you'll be happy with how your dog looks. The store is quite a delight, with lots of cute merchandise, and a play pen area for bigger dogs in the front where they can look out onto the street. The staff is really warm and friendly, especially the owner who is really personable.
We've been here 3 or 4 times now, and we were not happy with the cut the first time. They had a guest groomer who gave our Maltese a poodle topknot cut. (WTF?) But after talking to the owner about it, she offered a free fix and was really nice and understanding about it. Another time they had forgotten to put his collar back on so they mailed it to our home free of charge, which I thought was nice also. Just really good customer service, which is good because you're definitely paying that high-end boutique price, so at least you get what you pay for. (Trust me, a lot of other places charge similar and are a lot ruder...)
Ever since the first time, we've been extremely happy with the grooms. Our Maltese always comes out looking gorgeous and smelling fresh. We tried another place in an effort to save money, but we just ended up with a foul smelling badly cut dog. So, no more of that. They really know what they're doing there, and they take their time with your dog.
Only caviat is it's all the way down by the South Side Seaport, so it can be tough to get to if you're not in the neighborhood.
Josie B.YELPMy teacup poodle gets her monthly groom at the Salty Paw, her groomer is May. She is great! The staff is friendly & take great care of small and large dogs. The store is adorable too! They have groomers, day camp, and walkers..I highly recommend! Great find!
Mollie R.YELPI took my 6 month old Maltese Snowball to get groomed. The woman was very sweet and asked lots of questions before she took him in back. They have glass doors where you can view your dog being groomed and i looked in and he was happy and giving kisses to the groomer. He normally is shy around new people but really took to the groomer. I was pleasantly happy with how he looked after. It was exactly what i wanted and she even added a bandanna for the finishing touch. I will be taking him back regularly. The staff was also very informative and helpful without being pushy. I even got samples of doggy cologne and some treats. I am so glad i found them! PAWS UP for the SALTY PAW!
- Pros: cute shop, great selection & excellent groomer
- Cons: none
